Postnatal Doula

Support After the Birth

The mother's needs during the postnatal period are explored before the birth of her baby. With the support of a Doula the mother can more easily plan for her postnatal period so that she has the supports in place that will help her most.

The postnatal services that are offered include:

  • Debriefing after the birth. A Doula can support the mother (and couple) by being a good listener, by being someone for you to talk to about the birth experience, and to ‘fill in' some of the gaps that you may not be able to easily remember.
  • Helping parents to organise postnatal rotas for friends and family to provide cooked meals and care for other children if needed.
  • Supporting the mother so that she can take care of her own needs whilst caring for the new baby and dealing with the demands of day to day life.
  • Breast feeding support.
  • Helping with care for the baby.
  • Cooking meals for you in your own home.
  • Help with light housework. This can include doing the dishes, a quick vacuum, putting the washing on or general tidying up around your house.
