Postpartum Doula

The role of the postpartum doula is to provide useful support during the first weeks or months after the birth of your new baby. The type of support provided varies depending on what will assist the mother the most during the postpartum period.

Postpartum visits may include:

  • Being a good listener. You may feel the need or find it useful to talk about your experience of labour and birth. This may include assisting you in writing your baby's birth story.
  • Access to resources that may be useful during postpartum.
  • Assisting you in accessing information and further supports if desired/required.
  • Breast feeding support.
  • Help with light housework.
  • Preparing and cooking meals.
  • Doing your shopping and running errands for you.
  • Help with older children and the school run.
  • Helping you get to appointments.

Postpartum Doula sessions are a minimum of three hours in length and need to be booked in advance. If you are interested in this service it is best to get in touch during your pregnancy so that we can discuss your needs. Postpartum visits are often made on a weekly basis but more frequent visits can be arranged.
